An update, … on a lot of cases

(1) The sex abuse trial of Father Rene Labelle  continues in Kingston, Ontario.  More info to come and the following media coverage posted:

14 January 2013:  Alleged victim cross examined at sex assault trial

13 January 2014:  Man waited years to report abuse, court hears

The trial continues tomorrow at 10:30 am at the Kingston courthouse.  The complainant’s father will undergo cross-examination.

(2)  Father Charles Picot was to appear in the Bathurst New Brunswick courthouse yesterday to enter a plea.  He and his lawyer were no shows   A warrant has been issued for his arrest, but the judge is holding onto it until a next courtdate set for 28 April 2014!

14 January  2014:  “Arrest warrant issued for former priest facing sex charges“ & related article

(3) Father Gary Hoskins‘ preliminary hearing was scheduled for today in Stephenville, Newfoundland.  There will without doubt be a publication ban on all testimony, but hopefully there will be a report letting us know that it did proceed, and how he looked, and how many were in attendance and so on.  I checked for coverage but nothing yet.  Please send along links to any and all media coverage

(4)  A trial date was to be set today in Montreal for  Deacon William Kokesch.  Does anyone have any news on the outcome?

(5)  Father Jacques Faucher   had a court date in Ottawa today.  There will probably be a new court date set.  I won’t be able to check on that until next week.  Has anyone heard anything?

(6)  There will be examination for discovery for the new Father Dan Miller charges this Thursday.  This is not open to the public.

Please keep the complainant in your prayers.

I will blog bits and pieces of the Father Rene Labelle trial as I can.  Time is scarce – I will start posting my observations and thoughts tomorrow morning when I stop for coffee en route to Kingston.  There have been a few interesting moments in court and in the courthouse.

Please keep the complainant and his family in your prayers.  This is not easy for any of them

Enough for now,

Sylvia
