A reminder that the three-week jury trial of Father Robert Courture starts at 10 am (EST) this morning in Windsor. Ontario:
23 November 2015: 10 am, TRIAL by jury, set for three weeks, Windsor Superior Court of Justice (245 Windsor Avenue)
In April of 2013, after a two-year police investigation, Father Couture was charged with theft over $5,000. According to police, their investigation revealed more than $180,000 in financial “irregularities” at St, Anne’s Roman Catholic Church in Tecumseh, Ontario, where Father Couture had served as Pastor from 2002 until 2010.
Couture, a priest with the Diocese of London, Ontario, was granted a leave of absence in 2010 during which, it seems, he pursued a B. Ed at Ottawa U. It was after his departure from St. Anne’s that a routine audit uncovered “irregularities.”
Since 2012 until his arrest Father Couture was substitute teaching in French Catholic schools – was teaching a grade 4/5 class at ecole St. Paul in Stony Point, Ontario since November 2012.
I urge those who can do so to attend the trial.
Please pass along news and/or links to media coverage of the trial.
Enough for now,
